Beginner's Guide & FAQ / Concept Overview

What is Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and what is a private API?

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is Google's official developer cloud infrastructure where you can manage cloud projects and services (like YouTube and Gemini AI).

Private API (Application Programming Interface): Traditional applications often share a single developer key across thousands of users, causing frequent quota limit exceeded errors and slowdowns. By having your own free private API keys in Google Cloud, your TubeLink app gets dedicated daily throughput solely for you, completely free and reliable.

What keys are generated and what are they used for?

This automated generator sets up two keys in your Google Cloud Project:

• YouTube Data API v3 Key: Allows the app to fetch playlists, channel video lists, metadata, and comments directly from YouTube at high speed.

• Google Gemini AI API Key: Powers video AI summaries, comment highlights, and content analysis using Google's latest Gemini models.

Both APIs are 100% free under Google's generous daily quotas (Free Tier).

How does the 4-digit PIN work and why is the QR code encrypted?

End-to-End Security (E2EE): Your secret API keys are never shown in plain text in your Cloud Shell terminal window.

• The script encrypts the keys using strong AES-256-CBC encryption with your 4-digit PIN as the secret passphrase before generating the QR code.

• Where do I get the PIN? You can copy the 4-digit PIN generated by your TubeLink mobile app (under Key Setup & Pairing) OR generate a random PIN here and enter it in the app if prompted.

• If the scanned QR code was encrypted with a different PIN, the app will conveniently display an Enter Decryption PIN dialog to decrypt it on the spot.

What is Device Suffix / ID and is it required?

The Device Suffix / ID is completely optional.

It is used solely as a descriptive label suffix for your keys in the Google Cloud Console (e.g. TubeLink_YouTube_Key_A1B2C3D4). This helps you distinguish which device owns which key if you use TubeLink on multiple phones or tablets.

You can copy the suggested ID from the app, enter a custom name (e.g. phone, tablet), or click Random.

Why might a newly created key take a few minutes to activate?

After generating a new API key in Google Cloud, Google's global server network usually takes 1 to 5 minutes to propagate permissions worldwide.

TubeLink never blocks saving your keys. If a propagation notice appears during your first API search, simply wait 2 minutes and retry, or run a live test in Settings > Test & Validate Active Keys.
